Music definitely has a therapeutic component to it. I’ve been a faithful user of a series of music cd’s produced by through a Dog’s Ear. These cds are the product of bioacoustic research, which is the study of sound frequency, harmonic patterns and their effects on heart rate. During the day while I’m at work I leave the radio on at a very low volume for my dogs however, at night when it’s bedtime I switch to through a Dog’s ear specifically!

The Story of “Fat Butt”– How Obesity Led To A Close Call With Death
Moonshine was without question a morbidly obese cat. Her owner, Jan, loved Moonshine and really wanted to help her feline friend. During a yearly exam, I warned Jan that unless we could make some changes in Moonshine’s life, she was going to become sick due to her size. Jan agreed that Moonshine was rather robust, as she herself affectionately referred to her cat as “Fat Butt” on occasion, but worried that Moonshine couldn’t exercise safely at her size and she didn’t want to starve her cat in order for Moonshine to lose weight.

“Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole.”

Holly was my life dog. She wasn’t my childhood dog, or the family dog- she was all mine and I was hers, and now she is gone. Last Friday Holly became so sick, that I made the most difficult decision, to have her put to sleep. I wanted so badly to taker her home with me, and try the antibiotics that the doctors offered, but as an animal care specialist I knew deep in my heart that this time around, a few days of antibiotics were not going to make a difference for Holly’s quality of life.
