Rescue Remedy for Pets by Bach

rescue-petAre you looking for a treatment for your pet’s stress or trauma? Bach systems has a line of all natural homeopathic products for you to try.

We all manage stress differently including our pets, so why not try to assist in calming them especially if you foresee a potential situation where your pet could experience stress such as, visits to the veterinarian, thunderstorms, relocation, boarding or any sudden change in their schedule. This is precisely why I experimented with Rescue Remedy for Pets.

I decided to enroll my 2 dogs in doggie daycare twice a week and I knew this would be an adjustment especially for my dog Jake. He has lovingly been labeled my “anxiety” dog. In the past when he faced a new situation it’s taken quite sometime to relax and adjust, sometimes even becoming withdrawn a bit.

Rescue Remedy is all natural, comprised of five different flower formulas and is alcohol free. Initially I put four drops of rescue remedy in his water bowl, however because I have two dogs I started putting the drops right on a treat for him to be sure that he was getting the full dosage.

I chose to start him on this product only on the days when he went to daycare to assist with his anxiety. He received the dosage three times a day and my-princeI was pleased to see that it did not have a smell or taste that seemed to affect his appetite for a treat. Happily, I noticed no side effects from using this product EXCEPT for a calmer dog!

He definitely exhibited a more relaxed state but not drowsy by any means. We know our pet’s unique personalities and I have no doubt that this product did take the edge off of a stressful situation and assisted him. Occasionally when he gets overly anxious at home or in the car and barks too much I use this product. It is convenient, safe, effective and inexpensive. I think I will have to try this on my Siamese cat, Isaac next!

“Feline Friend-Z” Tue October 27th, 29, 30 and 31, 2009

Animal Protection Center of Southeastern Massachusetts
announces “Feline Friend-Z”

New non-profit animal shelter extends adoption center hours and offers reduced adoption fees to increase adult cat adoptions Adoption fees will be reduced to $100 for all cats over six months old (a $50 reduction). In addition, all bonded adult pairs (that’s two cats that came to the center together) will also be available at the single adult cat adoption fee of $100.

WHAT: The Animal Protection Center of Southeastern Massachusetts (APCSM) will be hosting a “Feline Friend-Z”, in an effort to find forever homes for their resident cats and to raise awareness about the newly formed non-profit’s animal shelter. “Feline Friend-Z” will feature reduced adoption fees for adult cats and extended adoption hours while providing an opportunity for the community to visit the shelter, meet the new team and acquaint themselves with the many adult cats that are in the APCSM’s care.

The APCSM is hosting the “Feline Friend-Z” as a means to inform and encourage potential adopters about the benefits of bringing an adult cat into their homes. Often, the playfulness of a kitten overshadows their older felines, but adopting an adult cat allows for a better match of the cat’s personality to the adopters and their lifestyles.
Community members interested in adopting a new friend are encouraged to visit the adoption center and to also visit www.apcsm.org <http://www.apcsm.org/> for more information about the adoption process and available pets.

WHEN: Tuesday October 27th, 4 – 8pm
Thursday October 29th, 2 – 8pm
Friday October 30th, 2 – 4pm
Saturday October 31st, 12 – 4pm

WHERE: Animal Protection Center’s Adoption Center, 1300 West Elm St Ext, Brockton
The Animal Protection Center of Southeastern Massachusetts (APCSM) is an open admission animal care and adoption facility, with focus on prevention of cruelty to animals, education and helping the community. Each year, over 4,000 animals in the area find themselves with nowhere to turn. The APCSM is committed to providing these homeless animals with humane and compassionate care in their time of need. Champ Needs A New Home!

134_3486My friend Rogers Cat, Champ-needs to find a new home because my friend has developed an allergic reaction to him, and he really wants to find him a good and happy home.

Champ is a really nice cat-check out the pictures attached, when I met him -I was in-love-but I already have 6 cats, and that’s the maximum I can care for on my own.

Champ is a timid guy, but enjoys petting when he finds people sitting somewhere quietly. He really is a mush…never getting over stimulated or aggressive. He doesn’t get along well with other cats-(When he lived with 7 of them)

He would be a really nice cat for a single person or a quieter household, although he is living with a houseful of people right now and doing fine.

136_3640Roger Say’s: “He’s pretty sedentary most of the time, but has his moments of higher activity. He’ll play if you have a string on the end of a stick. He also will chase a laser. But most of the time he likes to cat nap. He’ll sleep on your bed or he also likes the cat condo that I made for him, which I will also give with Champ. He likes to visit while you sit on the couch reading or watching TV. He doesn’t like to be picked up but he does love to be petted, especially his cheeks! Overall he’s a calm cat who will allow you to pet him endlessly without becoming over stimulated. The only food he likes are his kibble and cat treats. He has no desire for human food, even tuna.” Champ is 9 years old.

If you have room in your heart or home for another cat-especially if you have no cats at this time, please consider talking to Roger about Champ.

Diagnose Your Pet-Online?

By Tonia Evans
It’s Sunday-your Vet is closed till Tuesday, and all of a sudden your dog is doing something weird. You know it’s not an emergency, but you wish you had some more information to assess the situation and be better informed-maybe offer some home care for comfort. Great idea, but where do you turn?

You could call some of your best friends, they always have some advice to share, even if they’ve never had a pet before in their entire lives-they seem to know someone who has and they’ll have your tail spinning in no time! Or you could call your mom-she loves your Cookie Muffin Baby as if he were her own grandchild-right? I know it’s her grand-dog-this is a good mom. But lets face it-she might start getting more emotional than you are, and this could turn into a crazy scene on Sunday. Better not get the whole family involved!

On The Net I stumbled upon http://www.familypetservices.com, Their site says they’re “Striving to be the best 24 hour online pet care reference on the internet…” and after a quick review-I found it to be totally interesting-until I surfed up the cat option to diagnose my kitties skin bump-and suddenly the page read-”Coming Soon.” I guess they’re not cat savvy yet. They only started in 2000, I’ll give them a while-and check back.

Remember-this can never replace going to a veterinarian for real-hands on medical care-but you already know that!

In my practice, I see quite a number of feline patients with chronic lung diseases. Call it asthma or allergic bronchitis, breathing problems can be a constant source of concern for the patient, their owners, and their veterinarian. The cause of these lung injuries cannot always be explained. Because of this, the problem can be hard to prevent. Now there is another potential cause of breathing problems in cats - heartworm infection.

Spring and Summer tips for travel with your pet
As dog owners, many of us love to bring our pals along on adventures with us—especially in the good spring and summer weather. When going on an outing such as a hike in the woods or a trip to the beach, keep in mind that you’re taking your dog out of familiar surroundings and you as their pawrent should be prepared to meet their needs.

Being prepared is your best defense against pests that can cause mild discomfort or even life threatening infections..

Scratchy, itchy, scratchy... sign of a problem?

Scratchy, itchy, scratchy... sign of a problem?

As pawrents we know we have to be aware of ticks and fleas. But they’re other pests that we must protect our pets from as well. Just as humans can find mild discomfort from mosquito bites, we can also contract deadly diseases. The same is true for our pets.

Heartworm disease is acquired by our pets through a mosquito bite of an infected bug. This particular infection can be devastating to dogs and cats alike. Prevention is the key here as often a pet can show no signs of infection until the disease is well progressed.

Indoor or outdoor? To be or not to be…

By Cassandra Kelley DVM-Cat Clinic of Plymouth

Sophia in her outdoor kitty safe run!

Sophia & Alice in thier outdoor kitty safe run!

We have all heard the arguments. Indoor cats are safer. But are they happier? Certainly, indoor cats have a longer average survival surviving well into their teens in most cases. Cats who are allowed outdoors unsupervised tend to roam and come into contact with other animals, cars and sometimes inhumane humans. The risk of contracting an infectious disease including rabies or parasites that may affect their human caregivers is real, costly and can have devastating consequences.

White Coat Syndrome – helping kitty cope.

By Cassandra Kelley DVM-Cat Clinic of Plymouth

Taking your cat to the veterinarian can be a daunting experience for both the patient and the client. The greatest area of combat becomes cat entry into the cat carrier. I encourage all my patients to travel in carriers not only because it’s safer for them and their driver, but I believe it can truly alleviate feline travel anxiety.

Owners will tell me that they have to hide the carrier from their cat until they can be corralled into the bathroom. Otherwise the reticent patient hides under the bed and the appointment is missed. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if your cat walked willingly into the carrier? Follow this advice and we may be successful.
